Fashionable Fela!

So the 70's and Africa has led me to my very own heritage of course. I am Nigerian and so naturally I am very much into alluring colors and patterns and intense glamor of African clothing. I was looking for some interesting pictures and or videos to post and found some footage of Music legend Fela Kuti, who by-the-way had a rather fabulous broad way musical written and performed about him. Of course I didn't get to see it but I heard all of the raves.

Fashion in Africa

So I was talking to my cousin the other day about how the fashion industry is still somewhat lacking in diversity and could stand a touch of something new. Its kind of sad when you try to think of at least two or three main stream African American designers and the only person that comes to mind is...Tracy Reese. I know it probably means I just need to do a little more digging but it is an indication that the world still hasn't changed as much as we all thought and it's about time it shake things up a bit.
Naturally I started searching for fashion in Africa and I came across this really cool project called fashion in Africa that features some very talented designers (many from Tunisia). Apparently fashion has become a means of bringing the continent together, celebrating culture and strengthening the economy. Watch the video above. You'll love it !Muuahhh!

So spring is coming(WOOHOO!)and the 70's look is everywhere right now and I know I'm gonna see some even cooler 70's inspired ensembles in the spring and summer. I decided I wanted to post about a really cool 70's designer and I LOVE Zandra Rhodes so I picked her:). Above is an interview with the brilliant designer. I found some photos and a cool video of one of her fashion show's. I also found a video of a fashion show from the 70's. I DISAGREE : CATE's Amazing Oscar Dress !

I was just watching a repeat of the Fashion Police on t.v. and was very disturbed to learn that Joan Rivers gave Cate Blanchett the worst dressed award after she wore the dress above for the Oscars. I know that Joan goes for classic, glamor blah blah blah, but honestly she can be simply CLOSED MINDED when it comes to fashion. I love the way Cate Blanchett dresses. She is chic, sophisticated and original. Annnnnnd! I love this dress! Muuahhh!
